PACE (Premier Automotive Suppliers’ Contribution to Excellence) Award Ceremony jointly held by Automotive News, EY, and TRC Inc. successfully came to an end on the evening of 9th April in Detroit (US time). A123 Systems, subsidiary of Wanxiang, won 2018 PACE Award for its knock-out product which applies innovative technology – UltraPhosphate lithium-ion 48V battery.
PACE Award, known as an indicator of industrial innovation throughout the world, mainly honors enterprises that have significant influence on and bring “revolutionary” innovative products, parts or systems to automobile industry. The award targets at suppliers who directly provide products, technologies, materials or services for automobiles or trucks. The jury consists of senior judges in automobile industry. They select 33 candidates for the final from quantities of enterprises with innovative technologies and successful products, and then 15 PACE awards will be selected from them. Wanxiang’s UltraPhosphate lithium-ion 48V battery is developed by the North American engineering team of A123 Systems. It adopts patented technology of UltraPhosphate which has excellent power performance (power density: 5.9kW/kg), long cycle life and high security. Passive-cooling heat management design and smaller size make the battery easier for vehicle integration. So far A123 Systems has received many mass production orders worldwide, some of which have already stepped into mass production stage. It is predicted that the shipments will reach 500,000 sets per year by 2020. A123 Systems’ 48V battery has now become a leader in global market by virtue of its comprehensive R&D ability, product performance, product reliability and maturity, and market share.
Scientific and technological innovation projects of BOSCH, MAGNA and other world-famous parts companies also won the award.
